Question 1

What is the difference between the Ram 1500 and the old Dodge Ram?

Accepted Answer

Ram trucks were sold under the Dodge brand until 2009, when Ram was spun off as a standalone truck brand under Stellantis (then Chrysler). Trucks from 2010 onward are branded simply as Ram rather than Dodge Ram. The underlying truck is the same lineage — buyers searching for "used Dodge Ram 1500" will find the same model sold as Ram 1500 from 2010 onward.

Question 2

What is the Ram 1500 TRX?

Accepted Answer

The Ram 1500 TRX is the high-performance off-road variant of the Ram 1500, introduced for the 2021 model year. It features a supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 producing 702 horsepower, 35-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, Fox Racing shocks with remote reservoirs, and a 2-inch factory lift. The TRX competes directly with the Ford F-150 Raptor R and commands a significant premium in both new and used markets.

Question 3

What makes the Ram 1500 ride quality different from its competitors?

Accepted Answer

The Ram 1500 uses a coil-spring rear suspension rather than the leaf-spring setup found on the Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, and GMC Sierra. This design provides a noticeably smoother, more car-like ride quality — particularly on rough roads and when the bed is unloaded. It's one of the most commonly cited reasons buyers choose the Ram 1500 over its direct competitors.

Question 4

What engines come in used Ram 1500s?

Accepted Answer

The used Ram 1500 market features several engine options. The 5.7L HEMI V8 is the most common and well-regarded choice, available across most trim levels. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 serves as the base engine. The 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 is available for buyers prioritizing fuel economy and towing efficiency. The TRX uses the supercharged 6.2L HEMI. The eTorque mild hybrid system is available on both the V6 and HEMI in newer models.

Question 5

How much can a Ram 1500 tow?

Accepted Answer

The Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 lbs when equipped with the 5.7L HEMI V8 and the available towing package. The 3.0L EcoDiesel is rated up to 12,560 lbs. As always, actual towing capacity depends on the specific axle ratio, cab configuration, and whether the truck is equipped with the towing package — verify the tow rating on the door sticker of the specific truck.
